Somewhere down in Florida a group of Canada's most promising young soccer players are gathering for an eight day training camp. Nick Dasovic called a group of 20 young men for the camp that will run from September 5th through until the 12th and will include a pair of matches against Trinidad and Tobago.
This camp is important for Canada as it gives Dasovic another chance to work with the players who will play a key role in trying to earn a berth in the 2013 Under-20 World Cup in Turkey. To get there though Canada will have to manage a top four finish in the CONCACAF U-20 Championships which will take place in Mexico from February 18 until March 3. It will certainly be a tough task for Canada to advance but there is no reason to think that a group of this quality can not hold their own with anyone in CONCACAF including the US, Mexico, and Honduras.
The roster that Dasovic has called has a real Toronto FC flavour to it including two members of the senior team. Quillan Roberts and Oscar Cordon are joined on the roster by academy prospects Nikola Paunic, Tyler Pasher, and Sergio Camargo. There are also a number of players on the team who have spent time in Toronto's academy in the past including Michael Petrasso and Dylan Carreiro who left the academy and are now in the youth system at Queen's Park Rangers.
It is nice to see that all four of Canada's professional clubs are represented in the camp by at least one player and that Dasovic has been able to get a very good group together. He even has a player in the camp with a senior cap in Samuel Piette.
